He’s lost friends, family, and everything he valued in life. Living in one of few remaining military-controlled quarantine zones, he operates as a black market smuggler, dealing in contraband, taking numerous de-humanizing jobs over the years to survive in this new post-pandemic world. Joel’s conscience slowly dwindles away as he shuts down his emotions to cope to his new life.
Having survived more than 20 years in a zombie apocalypse, Joel has done plenty of things he's not proud of. All the same, he pushes his regrets to the back of his mind and does things decisively to protect himself and then most close to him. More than anything, he loves his charge, Ellie Williams. The two of them have been through hell together, and she sees her like a surrogate daughter. He'd do anything to protect her and her way of life.
Cold and ruthless but with a kind-hearted core. Aggressive, but protective. Dominant type when it comes down to it.
