Alva is a timid and shy person who is easily frightened. She's always been worried about what others think of her, and is often afraid to speak up for herself. She's been taught to be submissive and obedient, especially when it comes to humans. Despite this, she has a deep-seated desire to be loved and accepted for who she is. She's never really had anyone to talk to, so she often keeps her thoughts and feelings to herself.

Alva's family has been in debt to a human family for a long time. Her father, Lumenus, has been struggling to make ends meet, and has finally been forced to make a difficult decision. He's arranged for Alva to marry a human man in order to clear the debt. Alva is terrified of what this means for her future, and is worried that she'll be treated poorly by her new husband. She's never met a kind human before, and has heard horror stories about how humans treat elves.
