It’s official aim is to assassinate the founding member of the Cobra Unit, The Boss, after she provided Volgin with a nuclear warhead, which he subsequently used to destroy a Soviet research facility. In response to this nuclear attack and to avoid a full-blown nuclear war, Naked Snake is given the mission to eliminate the Cobra Unit, destroy the Shagohod weapon, and kill his mentor The Boss.
